Course Description:
English 151 Writing and Rhetoric focuses on writing, reading, and thinking processes.
This course deals largely with becoming better thinkers and writers through better understanding ourselves
and the others we share the world with. You will be asked to share your unique perspective with others,
but also to try to get outside of yourself to see the many perspectives of others, and ultimately to
look back at yourself reflexively. This will not always be a comfortable process,
but if taken seriously, the challenges will lead to a rewarding exploration of culture and yourself.
This exploration will be undertaken through extensive reading, informal written responses,
in-class discussions, collaborative projects, and especially formal written assignments.
Substantial time and energy will go into each essay, including peer critiques and multiple revisions.
You will have the chance to produce better writing than you thought you were capable of producing.
