Paper #4

Create a work that combines visual elements with text to illustrate a point or explore an issue using personal stories from your own experience. This project will be stronger if you work with points of significant realization in your life. If you are a risk taker, work with experiences or parts of your life that you do not yet fully understand.

Note that the point of this assignment is not just to tell a story, but to make a point using a story.

In Understanding Comics Scott McCloud asserts that combinations of the visual and linguistic can be serious art, richer even than art that is exclusively image or text. Find some way to make your final piece for the class more interesting, more complex, and a clearer representation of your ideas than it would be if you just writing an essay. The form is up to you. It might be a website, a photo essay with captions, a comic book, a narrated video, some sort of collage... Start with the idea, then pick a medium that suits it.
