Paper #2

Choose one type of role that you ordinarily play (gender, racial, etc.) Write an essay which describes the role as fully as possible, and explores the following:

• What parts of the role are biological or genetic, what parts are socially defined?
• Thinking about the parts that are social, speculate about where that particular role definition came from.
• What people, traditions, institutions, and other social practices reinorce that particular role definition?
• What conflict is there among these social and biological influences, or with other roles you play, and how do you attempt to resolve them to create your self

(While you may use stories to illustrate your points, this essay will be even more about ideas than the first.)

• Final: Friday, October 26
